Day1 - 2/9/10

I did an activity today during rehearsal using How Music Works on the "Timegrinder" channel on YouTube. There are some very good videos, all about 10 minutes long, that break down the musical elements in an easy to understand format. If you took the History, Discovery, and Travel channels and combined them to make a music channel, this is what you might get. Melody, harmony, and rhythm are all explained in an easy-to-understand and student friendly format.

The students watched 3 shorts clips on Melody, Harmony, and Rhythms and completed a short assessment that I created. These videos provide a springboard for discussing how melody, harmony, and rhythm operate within any band piece being rehearsed. It works well for warm-ups too.
